Mets catcher spends $2.65M in Palm Beach Gardens

Brian Schneider and his wife, Jordan, bought a five-bedroom, five-bath in Palm Beach Gardens from Wayne and Donna Marie Rivardo for $2.65 million on Dec. 17.

The Rivardos paid $550,000 for the property in Sept. 2004. The 6,499-square-foot house, which is in Mirasol, was built in 2006.

Mr. Schneider is a catcher with the New York Mets. In his first season with the Mets in 2008, he hit .257 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 110 games.

He was drafted in the fifth round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos and he made his Major League debut in 2000 for that team. He became the Expos regular starting catcher in 2003 and in 2004 he set career highs in games played (135), hits (112) and home runs (12).

Following that season the Expos relocated to Washington, and Schneider spent the next three years with the franchise until he was traded to the Mets prior to the 2008 season. In 2008, Brian Schneider's Catching for Kids Foundation was established to support children and their participation in sports by providing funding and creative programming.

There were 1,026 home sales in Palm Beach Gardens in 2008, with a median sales price of $290,000.
