Burt's Bees founder sells in Palm Beach for $1.5M

Roxanne Quimby sold a two-bath home at 365 Hibiscus Ave. in Palm Beach to Mabel Cantor for $1.725 million on May 22.

Quimby and Kay Ottinger paid $1.5 million in July 2005.

The 1,511-square-foot house was built in 1940.

Quimby is the co-founder of Burt's Bees, a manufacturer of natural personal care products for markets in Japan, Canada and the United States.

Before establishing Burt's Bees, she made candles for Annual Christmas Craft Fair and Bake Sale.

She has acquired more than 8,000 acres in Maine to help the state in establishing a new national park.

Home sales in Palm Beach dropped 14 percent in 2008 versus 2007. The median sales price is down from $1.2 million in 2007 to $1.1 million so far this year.
