The MacGregors paid $182,500 for the property in Dec. 1998.

The 1,793-square-foot home was built in 1977.

The late Mr. MacGregor was a civil engineer, who worked on the Florida Everglades Restoration Project

He graduated from the University of Washington.

The MacGregors were natives of Portland, Ore.

Mr. Alvarez is a licensed real estate broker in South Florida.

Home sales in Riviera Beach are down almost 28 percent so far this year. The median sales price is also down, going from $250,000 in 2007, to $218,000 so far this year.
