Family Dollar founder spends $4M in Boca's Excelsior

The Excelsior
Leon Levine and his wife, Sandra, bought a three-bedroom, three bath Excelsior condo at 400 S. Ocean Blvd. in Boca Raton for $4 million from 400 South Ocean Blvd Ltd. on May 20, 2004.
Unit #23 is one of one of 43 in the Excelsior, which was built in 2002.
Mr. Levine is the founder of Family Dollar, a chain of discount retail stores that originated and still has corporate headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.
A native of Rockingham, N.C., he opened the chain's first store in 1959 at the age of 22. He was awarded the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus when he retired in 2003.
Mrs. Levine serves with her husband as one the benefactors of the Levine Children's Hospital, located at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She attended the Women's College University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
Condo sales in
Boca Raton dropped 31 percent in 2007. The median sales price also dropped $64,000 last year, from $404,000 in 2006 to $340,000 in 2007.
Condo sales in the
Excelsior rose 166 percent in 2007, and the median sales price also rose $500,000, from $2.9 million to $3.4 million.
