Canadian politician sells for $1.14M in Palm Beach

John and Veronica McNiff bought a two-bedroom, two bath at 11642 Lost Tree Way in Unincorporated Northeast Palm Beach County for $1,147,500 from John H. Tory and Barbara Hackett on April 9.
The 1,368 square foot home was built in 1964.
Mr. McNiff is retired from his position as chief financial officer of Dover Corporation, an industrial products and equipment company based in New York. He held the position from 1983-2000.
Tory is an attorney, business entrepreneur and political activist.
He is currently the leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. In 2007, he was defeated in his bid for the Ontario general election. He also ran for mayor of Toronto in Nov. 2003.
From 1996-2000, Tory served as a commissioner for the Canadian Football League. He was also president and CEO of Rogers Cable, Canada's largest cable TV, video rental and Internet provider.
Prior to these positions, he worked as tour director and campaign chairman to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and managed the campaign of his successor, Kim Campbell. He has also served in the Office of the Premier and the Canadian Special Envoy on Acid Rain.
Before moving into the political arena, Tory was a partner with his father's law firm Tory, Tory, DesLauriers and Binnington in Toronto. He started his career as a radio journalist in Toronto.
Tory earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto and his law degree from York University.
Condo sales in
Unincorporated Northeast Palm Beach County dropped 12 percent in 2007. The median sales price also fell from $424,000 to $250,000.
