Wakeboarding champ sells Ocean Ridge 3BD for $1.19M

Champion wakeboarder Darin Shapiro sold a three-bedroom, three bath home at 6060 N. Ocean Blvd. in Ocean Ridge from Chad and Lisa Kendall for $1.19 million on March 24.

Mr. Shapiro paid $595,000 for the 2,468 square foot house, which was built in 1959, in Feb. 2003.

Mr. Shapiro is a professional wakeboarder and the most recognizable names in the sport. He has won more than once every major wakeboarding tour including the Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament, the World Championships and the X Games.

He started wakeboarding in 1991 at age 17 and after 15 years, he continues to promote the sport as a coach and advocate. He runs the Ride The Spot wakeboard camp in Orlando, Fla., and also Waketrix.com, which produces instructional DVDs on wakeboarding.

Mr. Shapiro was born in Fort Lauderdale.

Home sales in Ocean Ridge dropped more than 23 percent in 2007 versus sales in 2006. The median sales price increased from $808,000 to $850,000.
