Jose Canseco gets $3.5 for Weston mansion

Jose Canseco sold a 12,483-square foot, two-story home at 3025 Meadow Lane in Weston's Windmill Ranch Estates to Jay Howard Linn for $3.5 million on Aug. 18, 2000.

Mr. Canseco paid $2.2 million for the house, which was built in 1991, in Nov. 1994.

Canseco was an outfielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball until his final major league game in 2001. He started his professional baseball career with the Oakland Athletics in 1982 after being drafted in the 15th round.

It was four years after he was drafted that Canseco made waves throughout the league, as he was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1986 for hitting 33 home runs and 117 RBIs. The year after that the A's acquired fellow slugger Mark McGwire and the offensive duo would be dubbed the "Bash Brothers."

In 1988, Canseco became the first player in major league history to hit at least 40 home runs and steal 40 bases. That year he hit 42 homers, stole exactly 40 bases, helped Oakland get to the World Series (which they lost in five games) and was named the American League MVP.

The Athletics would go on to win the 1989 World Series against the San Francisco Giants in four games.

The six-time All-Star would go on to play for various teams throughout the rest of his career including the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and New York Yankees before eventually bowing out with the Chicago White Sox in 2001.

Canseco's 2005 book Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant `Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big is a tell-all account of the supposed rampant use of steroids among major league players during the 90s. Canseco himself has admitted to using steroids in his playing days.

The Havana, Cuba native is the twin brother of Ozzie Canseco, who had a brief major league career as well.

Home sales in Weston went up less than one percent through December 2007 versus the same period in 2006. Median sales price dropped from $451,000 to $402,000.
