John Mack Carter and his wife, Sharlyn, sold his three-bedroom, three bath at 240 El Dorado Lane in Palm Beach for $2.3 million to John and Mercedes Cassidy on Dec. 5.
The Carters paid $1.825 million for the home in April 2005.
The 2,795 square foot home was built in 1960.
Considered one of the most important influences on women's magazines in the last 60 years, Mr. Carter is the former editor in chief of Good Housekeeping magazine, as well as the former president of Heart Magazine Enterprises. He is currently a consultant for The Hearst Corporation, the parent company responsible for national magazines such as Country Living, Victoria, Country Living Gardener, Smart Money and Marie Claire.
He headed Good Housekeeping from 1975-94 and won two National Magazine Awards during his time there. Upon leaving his post, he founded the Heart Corporation's division of Hearst Magazines, charged with developing new publishing ventures for the company.
The Kentucky native also spent a decade as the editor for Ladies' Home Journal and served in the same role for McCall's.
He is a 1983 inductee in the American Society of Magazine Editor's Hall of Fame and is the namesake of the John Mack Carter Scholarship in Media at the University of Texas.
He earned his master's in Journalism from the University of Missouri and his bachelor's from Murray State University.
Home sales in Palm Beach dropped nearly six percent through Dec. 15, 2007, versus the same period in 2006. The median sales price, however, remained the same at $1.2 million.
