A-Rod sells Coral Gables 6BD for $8.5 million

Alex and Cynthia Rodriguez sold a six-bedroom home at 181 E. Sunrise Ave. in Coral Gables to Santa Maria Land Trust for $8.5 million on March 17.

The Rodriguezes paid $12 million for the home in Dec. 2004. The 8,310-square-foot house in the Gables Bayfront neighborhood was built in 1952.

Mr. Rodriguez is a third baseman with the New York Yankees. He joined that team in Dec. 2007 via a trade with the Texas Rangers, who signed him to a 10-year, $252 million contract prior to the 2001 season -- the largest contract in baseball history. He would later sign a 10-year, $275 million extension with the Yankees.

He has been a major league regular since becoming the Seattle Mariners starting shortstop in 1996. He is a 12-time All-Star, three-time American League MVP winner, two-time Gold Glove winner and he was a member of the 2009 World Series champion Yankees.

Rodriguez was the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs, doing so at the age of 32. He also set the record for most home runs in a season by a third baseman with 52 in 2007. His 583 career home runs rank him eighth in MLB history, tied with Mark McGwire.
